Oldsmobile 442 Tribute, powered by a 1968 442 400/360hp, Turbo400, 3:73 posi rear. This car was originally a very solid 350 Cutlass S. The owner had had this car for over 15 years and has spent a good amount of time and money to make it what you see here, let's get into the details.
The car was an original green, bench seat car. The engine and trans were pulled and in their place went a stout '68 Olds 442 400/360hp engine, behind it lies a Turbo400 with a Lokar electric kickdown - both the engine and trans have about 12,000 miles on them. The rear is a 3:73 posi unit - making this one quick Olds.
The body and paint on this car is amazing, done at A&K Customs in NH. The panels are straight with amazing reflections (see pics), the gaps are very good, no door sag, super flat paint with zero "orange peel" - this base coat / clear coat paint is truly show quality. The vinyl top shows no signs of anything going on underneath and is as nice as when it was new. The OAI hood screams 442 in this generation of Olds A-body so it was a requirement. The stripes are dead accurate and buried in the clear and look amazing against the deep black hue. The trunk spoiler balances the car nicely and compliments the rear "trumpet" exhaust tips. This car is menacing to look at from the rear, with that wing, dual exhaust, and giant 15" 295's wrapped around those classic Keystone mags - how cool is that? There is ZERO RUST on this car and the floors and frame are perfect. Only the right rear qtr and trunk floor were replaced during the car's transformation. The qtr panel was cut off of a rust free car so it's factory GM sheet metal. The interior is now a bucket seat / console configuration, with a tach installed in the dash (very "day two" - we all did it!), the windows have a slight tint on them, and roll up and down nicely. This car was originally equipped with AC, some of the parts have gone missing over the years, but feel free to plug in a nice and efficient "Vintage AC" setup into the existing duct work. The front buckets are made by Corbeau and are able to recline and tilt forward for back seat access. Other options include power steering and power brakes (front disc). The car runs and drives very well, doesn't run hot and can be driven anywhere comfortably. I have many more photos that I can share with you - just ask.
