Here we have a very rare and desirable B-Body Mopar which has just come up for sale. This 1971 Dodge Charger Super Bee is powered by its original, # 's matching V-code 440-6pk engine, backed by a non-original but date correct HD 727 Torqueflite 3-spd automatic transmission and the original Dana 60, 4:10 geared Sure Grip rear. Painted in gorgeous code GB5 Bright Blue Metallic 9 (also known as B5 Blue), one year only Charger Hardtop dubbed the Super Bee (previously they were Coronets). This car was once part of the Otis Chandler collection which says something about the car's condition and provenance. Well optioned for a 6pk car. Options include RAM Charger hood (carb fresh air package), Elastomeric Colored Front & Rear Bumper Package, Left remote control & right manual painted racing mirrors, Front and Rear Spoilers, Bucket Seats w/Console, 4:10 Super Track Pak package, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Steering Cooler, 26" Radiator w/Fan Shroud, AM/FM Radio w/Rear Seat Speaker, 15"x7" Rally Wheel w/Trim Ring, and Tinted glass. The car has never been used as a daily commuter since its restoration.
The body was in outstanding condition to start with, wearing flawless paint w/ super straight original body panels all around. After lathering the car in its factory correct B5 Blue paint, it was then buffed & polished to a brilliant shine, as were the black stripes. All of the chrome, grille, stainless-steel trim, emblems, etc., are in show quality condition. From the headlights up front, to the rear spoiler in back, this car looks factory fresh in every way. She has a perfect stance and sits on original 15” x 7” Mopar Rallye wheels wrapped in reproduction Goodyear Polyglas GT bias ply tires.
You can walk around this car a hundred times, and it looks perfect from every angle. The undercarriage is beautifully detailed as well, w/ glossy painted floor metal and correct components throughout.
When you open the driver’s door, you will find a beautiful black vinyl bucket seat interior w/ console in outstanding original condition from front to back. The bucket-seats, door panels, dash pad, carpeting, center console w/ factory gauges, etc., all appear to be original and in beautiful condition. All the original gauges including the factory tachometer are in good working order. The trunk area was beautifully restored using the correct trunk mat, it still has the original spare wheel/tire, and jack assembly.
Now, let’s get to the good stuff, shall we?
Pop open the hood, and inside the highly detailed engine bay resides the original #’s matching 440-6pk, 390hp motor lathered in fresh Hemi Orange paint, featuring the correct valve covers, correct Holley carburetors, correct distributor, correct alternator, etc. The original V-Code 440-6pk motor is linked to a non-original HD 727 Torqueflite 3-speed transmission. Power is then sent to the original Super Track Pak specified Dana-60 rear diff which is stuffed with a 4:10 gear set. It is quite rare to find a 1971 Dodge Super Bee that has retained its original 6pk engine, as well as original body panels. She fires up nicely, settling into a nice smooth idle, and she runs & performs wonderfully. If you don’t like attention then this certainly is not the car for you, as anywhere that you take this beautiful Mopar, there will be a large crowd around snapping photos on their smartphones.
This is a blue-chip American muscle car in every way, it’s a former show car moved around by trailers. The last couple of owners have driven this car so there is dust in the nooks and crannies of the car and a stone chip here and there (very hard to notice), but it would still make a wonderful addition to any high-end muscle car collection. If you gave been searching for just the right vintage Mopar, wearing the right colors, w/ multiple carbs, it would be very hard to beat this gorgeous '71 Six-Pack Bee!
