In the golden age of American muscle, the 442 was the ultimate option for sophisticated enthusiasts. And today, when you're looking to grab a piece of Detroit's finest iron, a numbers-matching Oldsmobile is one of the smartest purchases on the market. And there's ABSOLUTELY no reason spending six figures of your hard-earned money shouldn't get you a distinguished showstopper like this incredible W-30. The beneficiary of a body-off restoration that was conducted by 442 experts Bunjie’s Hot Rod and restoration garage. This striking Olds has the original, W30 455 cubic inch V8 backed with the original Turbo400 automatic and 10-bolt B.O.P. 3:42 stuffed posi rear. The Original and NOS sheet metal reflects the correct Matador Red over Parchment color scheme. And if you're the kind of gearhead who likes to take hardware home from a show, this is the trophy king you've been waiting for!

Some notable facts about this car: it’s believed to be the last W30 convertible made in 1971, only 110 convertible W-30s were made, 78 were automatics, it’s unknown how many were ordered with the Hurst His’n Hers shifter. Very few, if any, were ordered with this option list. The car runs and drives like an Olds W Machine should, sit down, shut up, buckle up, and HOLD ON! You’ll love the bark of 2nd gear!! This car is incredible!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Assembled in Lansing, Michigan during the second week of July 1971, this awesome Oldsmobile is an impeccably maintained classic that still features its original drive train and specific W-30 parts (carb, distributor, etc.). The car was originally order by an Oldsmobile Executive in Oklahoma City, OK, which is why it has EVERY OPTION available (except for the compass in the drivers outside mirror). Options include PS, PDB, Power Top, Power bucket seats, PW, PL, console, optional Hurst “His’n Hers” gated shifter, AM-FM-8 Track (with the original GM tape still wrapped in plastic!), Cruise Control, COLD A/C, light group, etc.

The 1st “titled” owner bought the car directly from the GM executive thru a dealer in Oklahoma City. The car was used to drive from OK to Denver, CO during the summer months. Fun Fact: it was also the parade car for the Shriners parade in Denver for 28 years in a row! The current owner bought the car in 2001 from the original woman owner – making this a TWO owner 1971 W30.

As stated earlier it was sent Bunjie’s of Brimfield, MA for a professional, body-off restoration. And today, this Oldsmobile rolls as one razor-sharp and rare drop-top that mixes great classic muscle car looks with a no-nonsense demeanor.

Like all second-generation A-bodies, the 442 continued to get better year after year. The car's clean, boxy lines were no doubt a play on its parent division's engineering leadership within the GM hierarchy, and the resulting design continues to weather exceptionally well. At the front of this coupe, a 442-specific grille sits between the chrome-trimmed T3 headlights and a bright chrome bumper that's finished with clear parking lamps. At the top of that grille, a fiberglass ram air hood anchored by the famous “twist locks” in front of a chip-free windshield. All the stainless and chrome on the car is showroom perfect. Traditional GM door handles and color-keyed sport mirrors perfectly complement the clean marker lamps, dent-free wheel rings and a slick combination of “442” and “W-30” fender emblems. And at the back of the car, the rear chrome bumper with silver-trimmed taillights and correct, trumpeted exhaust tips, the car has a very correct Gardner exhaust system on it, and it sounds incredible!

ENGINE

It's not immediately apparent why this Olds' body carries so much sizzle; that is, until you see what's under its hood. Twist the locks and you'll find the original, number matching 340hp 455 cubic inches of Rocket V8. Stomp the throttle and a restored Quadrajet 4-barrel mixes the fuel from leak-free fuel lines with air being sucked in from a correct W-30 air cleaner, and shoves it into a correct aluminum intake. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor feeds fire through correct plug wires, which snake around original “H” heads and stamped and painted valve covers. Below those covers, freshly restored exhaust manifolds exhale the spent gasses. Mechanically, the standard-bore mill is all day reliable, spinning 460 lb./ft. of pavement-melting torque from a ’70 spec’d cam, an original crank, and one of the largest and most powerful valvetrains ever created. Aesthetically, the familiar W-30 red plastic fender liners and Metallic Blue block look fantastic against the car's red and white body. There's a roster of high-quality details that includes fresh stamps, fresh decals, pliable GM hoses, a correct alternator and a modern, Delco-topped battery. And the entire set up is, according to the car's previous owner, comprised exclusively of original and NOS components.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

The bottom of this awesome 442 is clean, solid and better than factory fresh. The Rocket 455 fronts an original OW coded Turbo 400. That proven transmission sends power to a stout 10-bolt axle, which employs 3:42 gears and a posi-traction differential with a W-27 rear-end cover. That smooth driveline rides a familiar heavy-duty suspension, which, along with the car's chassis, was thoroughly stripped, painted and detailed during the body-off reboot. Solid stops are provided by rebuilt front disc and rear drum brakes. Everything rolls on chrome trimmed and body-colored SS-II wheels and spin G70-14 Goodyear Polyglas (radial) bias ply looking tires.

INTERIOR

Inside this impressive car you'll find a correct white (parchment) interior that, in the realm of performance-focused muscle cars, is both classy and upscale. At the center of the car, stainless-trimmed seats ride on fresh carpet that's protected with rugged Oldsmobile floor mats. At the sides of those seats, clean door panels center familiar GM armrests in bright chrome handles, straight stainless trim and fresh wood applique. A wood-trimmed dash that employs the deluxe Rally Pack gauges and that AM-FM 8-Track really adds to the option list. At the base of that dash, a factory console houses the renowned Hurst floor shifter. In front of the driver, a Sport Steering Wheel laps a bright rocket emblem. And behind the passengers, a restored and decaled trunk holds a fifth Super Sport II wheel and Goodyear tire along with the correct jack, a parade boot and a floor mat.
