1969 Pontiac Grand prix model J - 400, auto
This beautiful Grand Prix has recently become available from a very caring owner that is looking to relocate and can’t take the car with him. We’re looking for the next curator of this very nice old gal. She’s currently showing 86,000 miles (TMU)
EXTERIOR: The body is in excellent shape with no evidence of damage. Everything fits exceptionally well showing very good gaps. Repainted in a candy-style metallic red in 2018 (original color was code 52 Matador Red) that really makes the car POP! The new black vinyl top (2018) looks amazing on this car. Up front the chrome, grill, and lenses look great and fit well. The car's chrome and stainless are original but still very presentable. The 15x7 Rally II wheels look new as do the BFG Radial T/A’s. The tires are 235/60R15’s up front and 245/60’s out back. The car is super straight and has very nice reflections looking down the sides. The glass is in good shape and the power windows operate perfectly.
INTERIOR: Inside the car looks great. The Black Morrokide vinyl bucket seat interior is new and looks wonderful. The fit and finish looks very good with only a slight cracking on the top of the dash. The carpet is in nice shape. The seats have a great cushion, and overall, the upholstery looks great. The door panels are nice. The shifter and console area are in excellent shape. As stated before, the power windows operate flawlessly. The deluxe steering wheel is in nice shape. It has an upgraded Alpine AM-FM-CD, Blue tooth enabled, sound system with a Precision Power amp in the trunk – sounds real nice. Interior lights all work.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: the engine bay is clean. It's showing factory options including air conditioning (needs charge), power steering and power brakes. The engine is a period correct YE block which translates to a 69 400 / automatic, but the VIN does not match. It runs great and has a mild cam, she’s rated at approx. 350 hp. She sounds great with the new dual exhaust, and it has Flowmaster mufflers and chrome tips. It’s been driven 36,000 miles since the engine and trans were rebuilt and installed. Some of the newer parts include: an Edelbrock Torker II intake, Holley 650 carb (PN: 80457-S), stainless intake bolt kit, MSD Ignition system, Summit HEI distributor, MSD Blaster coil, Anson polished Pontiac Aluminum valve covers, K&N Oil filter, all new belts and hoses, Holley gas filter, correct manifolds, and a Summit chrome air cleaner. The cooling system, radiator, shroud, and clutch fan look mint, it has a new thermostat and fresh coolant. Everything is very neatly painted and presentable under the hood.
UNDERSIDE: The floors, trunk pan, and frame is clean with no evidence of replacement. New brake and suspension parts include left and right front brake hub assemblies, left and right caliper, pads and rotors, wheel bearing kits, a new master cylinder and power brake booster. The rear brakes have also been completely redone. Lower control arm bushings have been replaced along with ball joints, idler arm, tie-rods, and other suspension components and bushings and was finished off with a good alignment.
The Turbo400 3spd automatic transmission was rebuilt along with the engine and it shifts firm, the rear is a factory B.O.P. 10 bolt with highway-friendly 3:23 gears and fresh fluid. Spare parts include the original Q-Jet carb and intake, water pump, and fuel pump. Currently the clock doesn’t work (very typical on these original cars), the speedometer cable could use a shot of WD-40, and the A/C could use a charge (the compressor was replaced recently).
Please keep in mind that this is a 55-year-old car that has never been restored. It’s been wonderfully maintained and is a great driver, so if you’re looking for shiny paint underneath with stripes on the driveshaft and restoration tags on the brake and coil springs – this isn’t the car. This car is an exceptional driver and would make you proud to pull into your local cruise night! This is a car you can jump in and enjoy today!
