1951 Mercury Coupe - FLAT HEAD - SURVIVOR (Lead Sled?)
This is a beautiful old gal, a 1951 Mercury Coupe that I'd classify as a very good SURVIVOR level car, she's never been restored. Owned since 2000, (previous owner had it for 20 years), 255 Flathead V8 (wide belt), 3-spd manual OD trans, new brakes, shocks, clutch, rear lowering blocks (2"), smoothies with Coker Wide white walls, new dual exhaust with "dumps" up front. 4:27 rear makes this car move out (extra higher geared rear included), fender skirts included (not shown). Original Kerry Blue Metallic repainted Burgundy by the previous owner back in the 70's and still presents well, some checking is evident in spots but overall she's still a "looker." She runs and drives well with all systems operating. 6-Volt electricals all work great, lights, gauges, blower motor, etc. Vacuum wipers are a little "lazy" and the gas gauge sender (or float) needs adjusting - but works (1/4 tank is empty, shows overfull when full). Radio doesn't work, heat blows nice and warm for those fall cruises. Body is great with very little rust repair - see pics. This is an automotive icon of American hot-rod lore - the 51 "Merc" is the car to have if you're into early 50's socal customs. Owner looking to downsize collection.
